MEMORIAL SERVICE

Dr. Kalpana C.
Chawla
1961-2003
On February 1st 2003
Indian-American Dr. Kalpana C. Chawla, 41, was one of seven astronauts killed
on the Space Shuttle Columbia.
The Hindu community held a memorial service to honor her as the
first Indian woman to rocket into space, and to express our sorrow and grief
for this tragedy. This memorial service was
held on March 8th, 2003 at the Hindu Mandir and Cultural Center,
prior to our Holi event.
The event was attended
by a number of dignitaries who gave moving tributes to Dr. Chawla. We are
grateful to them for taking the time to be here
with us. Our President, Nirvan Balkissoon, opened the service with
his
address.
We would like to thank
all those who attended.
